Clip it to you so you know where it is at but it can hang freely so you can manipulate your hands to help with search or to maneuver it around freely for better visibility.

This thing is awesome! So far i have used it in the engine, hangs from my air pack perfect, stays in place on my coat during VES training. Gonna order another for the house.

Using my flashlight this way along with my helmet light allows me to illuminate where I need to with ease. Great idea for a product and another Quality built piece to last an entire career.

Finally, a new addition for my flashlight that is heavy duty and quality craftsmanship that allows me to keep my light attached to my gear while I shine it in directions I never was able to in the past without taking it off. So the days of bending in weird ways to avoid removing your light from your gear is over if you get one of these.
